Well done, everybody!

Our worthy bo’sun has given the production the thumbs up … as did everyone we spoke to after the show. One email we received said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the show yesterday – as always the performance was superb. It was good to see younger members performing. The backdrop as always was stunning. Well done to everyone. Next year will see … 20 years supporting the Dunfermline G&S. Book our usual seats!”

So, thank you to our loyal audience members, thank you to the cast (who will be missing their nightly intake of the goodies from Jack’s Caff!), and a special thank you to the Director, MD and stage staff who pulled the show together and made it something of which the Society can be proud.

We’ll have an archive page shortly, but don’t forget the next date for your diary, which is Friday 19 June, when our concert performance of The Mikado will have a very special guest in the role of Katisha! Watch this page for details.

Weighing anchor soon

Our next show may be half a year away, but we’re already getting excited about the start of chorus rehearsals – we meet at Whitefield at 7.30pm on Wednesday 28 August 2019 – and getting ready for the auditions on Monday 2 September and Monday 9 September.

We always need fresh talent and enthusiasm, and this might be any opportunity for you. If being one of our soloists appeals, you can find details of what to prepare on our Auditions page; if you would like to be one of the many others involved in a production, there’s a lot of information on our Becoming a member page; if you’re uncertain, don’t keep the uncertainty to yourself, but give us a try … come along on a Wednesday evening and have some fun!

It’s ticket time!

The longest day is coming fast. If you would like something enjoyable with which to while away the long evening hours, why not come to our Sing-Along The Pirates of Penzance at 7.30pm on Friday 21 June 2019 at St Margaret’s RC Memorial Church, Dunfermline KY12 7JB. You have a choice of singing along with the chorus – scores will be provided – or just sitting back and listening.

You can get tickets at the door, but it would be safer to buy in advance from members of the company, or to reserve by phone/text to 07703 483083 or by email to ku.gro.ssagdnull@selastekcit. Whichever you choose, your £10 will both be a bargain and help your Society.

Ready for Pirates

We’re delighted to announce that we have a full cast of talented principals confirmed for our Pirates of Penzance Singalong.  They will lead our DGASS chorus and audience in a fun evening, where you can sing along or sit back and listen. Come and join us on Friday 21 June at 7.30pm in St Margaret’s RC Memorial Church, Dunfermline.

A view from the corner

The Sorcerer, Act 2:
“Oh horrible, she’s going to adore me!”

As the deputy stage manager ‘on the book’, Alison Pendlowski, is frequently asked, “What does the show look like?” or “How is the show going?”. Click the image to read her reply. And do get in touch if you fancy being ‘on stage, but not on stage’ as part of our hard-working production team.

Calling all Pirates!

Have you noticed that our right-hand column “Next appearance” is a Pirates of Penzance Summer Singalong on Friday 21 June? “Singalong” does what it says on the tin, which is to allow everyone to participate. But you don’t have to wait until June, because you’ll be very welcome to come to the rehearsals as well – we “know the value of a kindly chorus”, as Ralph Rackstraw puts it in HMS Pinafore (next year’s main show … hint, hint!).

Our first rehearsal is at 7.30pm on Wednesday 20 March at Whitefield Day Hospital, Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline (some directions are at http://tinyurl.com/ctayy9.). Anyone who would like to sing with us is encouraged to attend this preliminary rehearsal, after which Willie Campbell, our MD for the Singalong, will be able to decide how many rehearsals are needed and when they will be, the aim being maximum enjoyment from minimum slog! Do please come along, and bring a friend – whether a tame pirate, or one of Major-General Stanley’s daughters, all will be made welcome.

The feasting is over …

… the curtain has come down on the final performance … Sir Marmaduke has issued his final invitation to another feast … John Wellington Wells has time to get his breath … Lady Sangazure can shed those terribly hot furs … Charlie Chaplin has enjoyed his last flirt with the bridesmaids … and the Ploverleigh air is no longer “charged with amatory numbers”. The cast enjoyed the show and the audience were enthusiastic. But all is now just memory (though you can access the programme at this link and find out how Charlie Chaplin came to be in a G&S chorus-line), and we’ll all have to wait until June for the next chance to hear our Society in action. Thank you to everyone who made this show such a success.

Next appearance

Our summer concerts will be on 20/21 September 2024, and your next chance to see the Society on stage at Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline will be on 13–15 February 2025.
