Clare’s walk for charity

clare_whiteAs you probably know, Clare has a personal interest in brain cancer research, and 20 September will see her at Windsor Leisure Centre for the Twilight Walk in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity.

Do please sponsor the lovely lady on the left! Her JustGiving page is at this link, but she’s in the alto chorus for the show this year, so you can shell out in person at any rehearsal. Good luck, Clare!

Yeomen cast

Following the recent auditions for principal parts, the production has now been fully cast, with the exception of Colonel Fairfax, as you will see at this link. Well done everybody!

There is still an opportunity for new chorus members to join the team. We welcome everyone, especially men – the Tower being a male-dominated environment! If you know someone who might be interested, encourage them to come along on any Wednesday, but don’t delay, since we will be starting on the floor during October. See this page for what’s involved in being a member.

Audition pieces

Audition pieces for music and dialogue can now be downloaded at this link. Dates for auditions, and how to get involved in our next production, are given below.

News about Yeomen

The Chairman writes: After the summer we’ll be starting Yeomen of the Guard. The dates for Yeomen are 24–27 February 2016, which is a little later in the year than Gondoliers.  We plan to begin rehearsals on Wednesday 19 August at 7.30 pm at Whitefield Day Hospital.

Audition dates for those who would like to be considered for principal parts have been set as Wednesday 26 August and Monday 31 August (in the evenings).  Audition pieces for music and dialogue can be downloaded at this link. If you would like to audition, or ask for more information, please contact Mary Alexander, the Vice-Chairman, or e-mail ku.gro.ssagdnull@snoitidua.  You will be able to book a slot on one of these days.

I look forward to seeing many of you on 19 August.  Meantime, have a great summer!

Extra concert rehearsal

The Chairman writes: “Several of us having been rehearsing in the last few weeks for the Christmas fund-raising concerts that we’re planning.  We’ve done three Wednesday rehearsals, and have one more planned, additional to the dates originally announced, next Wednesday (24 June).  The idea then will be to keep these items “warm” and add to them for the concerts around the time of Christmas.  (There’s still time and opportunity to be involved.)”

Concert rehearsals

George writes: You’ll remember that we’d talked about beginning rehearsals for some of the items for the Christmas concerts before the summer, and then adding the more traditional items later.

Willie is proposing to hold rehearsals on three Wednesdays – 27 May, 3 June and 17 June – all at 7.30pm in Whitefield.  He has asked me in addition to invite you to consider what solos and/or small group items that you might like to volunteer.

Hoping to see a good number of you on 27 May!

More about the AGM

Notice was given on 1 April that the Annual General Meeting of Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society will be held in Whitefield Day Hospital on Wednesday 22 April 2015 at 7.30pm. Links to a downloadable agenda and the 2014 AGM to which it refers were in an email circulated on 9 April, and George asks members to look at the agenda before the meeting. If you are a member, and haven’t received the email, please contact the Chairman or Administration Manager. The email also confirmed that a rehearsal would not be possible in the second part of the AGM night. We hope to see you there, even if you won’t be singing!

Next appearance

Our summer concerts will be on 20/21 September 2024, and your next chance to see the Society on stage at Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline will be on 13–15 February 2025.
