Our Buxton day

Buxton Opera House

The Festival day started with talks at 10:30am, a recital at 1:00pm, performances at the Pavilion and/or St John’s at 2:30pm, a pre-show talk at St John’s at 6:30pm, a performance in the Opera House at 7:30pm, preceded by a fanfare at 7:15pm, and ended in the Pavilion, where the Festival Club offered food and drink and a post-show cabaret until midnight.

Fanfare before The Mikado

One result of the late nights was that we saw a lot of a fascinating Georgian town suitably illuminated!

‘The Crescent’ at night

Our Buxton experience wasn’t all work. We drank a lot of coffee (and stronger refreshment!), ate a lot of food, enjoyed the market and the walks through an interesting town with some magnificent gardens … and went up a lot of hills. Val McManus was busy with her camera, and here are some of the results. In the interests of fairness, these are presented in random order, though you can navigate through the filmstrip below the display.

Next appearance

You’ve just missed a chance to see the Society on stage, but we’ll be back at Carnegie on 18–20 February 2027 with a sparkling production of that perennial favourite, The Gondoliers.
