Dunfermline Foodbank Fundraiser
As winter approaches and fuel bills skyrocket, the Dunfermline Foodbank will undoubtably be under even more pressure to help people out in the coming months, so our friends at Strictly Songtime thought they could do their bit to help by staging a fund-raising concert. They being on this occasion Anne Diack, Greig Hill, Ian & Lorna Brown and Susan Burnett, abetted by Reece Smith and the Morrison clan of Steve, Sam and Oliver, with Andrew Thomson on the keys.
An evening of music theatre songs – well-known and not so – in the St Andrew’s Erskine Parish Church in Robertson Road, Dunfermline at 7:30pm on Saturday 12 November. Tickets £10 from 01383 724487 and strictlysongtime@ukgateway.net, with all food donations gratefully received on the night.
So why not leave Strictly Come Dancing on the i-player for later and join Strictly Songtime (they had the name first!) for a night at the musicals, and boost the Dunfermline Foodbank’s coffers and supplies!
Time is running out
This is what our Director (Robin Ożóg) has to say by way of introduction to our production of The Pirates of Penzance. It’ll a fun show to watch, but even more to take part in. If being one of our team appeals, be aware that time is running out for you to join!
Hail, Poetry!
The Pirates of Penzance has some great music, and this is one of the set pieces that we always enjoy. It’s the chorus responding to the Pirate King’s “What, we ask, is life without a touch of Poetry in it?
Hail, Poetry, thou heav’n-born maid!
Thou gildest e’en the pirate’s trade.
Hail, flowing fount of sentiment!
All hail, divine emollient!
The recording was taken at one of our September music rehearsals … we’ll soon be without books and on the floor!
Enjoy singing with us!
In this week’s video Eddie MacLennan, our conductor, explains how anyone who loves singing will enjoy themselves as part of our Pirates team, and invites you to come along to Limekilns church next Wednesday.
Music on Sundays is back!
Your webmaster is thrilled to tell you that Music on Sundays is back after a difficult couple of years. And it’s bigger and better than ever, with a series of seven high-quality chamber music concerts over the next few months, in the warm and welcoming surroundings of Viewfield Baptist Church.
The season starts at 7.30pm on Sunday 11 September when Scots Baroque, a Glasgow-based early music quartet who use older music as inspiration for contemporary works, will take us on a whirlwind tour through Scotland, England, Bohemia and Poland. If you’ve never heard the theorbo before … now’s the time! (It’s an early type of guitar).
To buy your tickets and learn more about all seven concerts, click the image. Look out for the season ticket offer, which helps you as well as helping to bring more great musicians to Dunfermline next year (and the next). And please don’t forget to pass the word on, to help our friends in the Dunfermline Arts Guild get more people along to these brilliant concerts.
There’s still time …
… to join our crew. This week the invitation comes from Sinead Black, our Vice Chair – having passed the task of Social and Fund-Raising Manager to Jack Archibald.
What Sinead doesn’t say is that we’re an “equal opportunities Society”, so are very open to have those who don’t identify as male appearing as pirates and policemen!
Our Chair speaks …
Which one is the pirate, you might well ask! The one on stage right is Morag, the other is our Pireavie Pirate … and both are inviting you to come along to Limekilns Parish Church at 7.30pm on a Wednesday evening to find out how much fun being part of our team can be.
