Book a place on the boat!
HMS Pinafore is sailing soon, to be precise at 7.30pm on Friday 22 June, when we invite you to come to St Margaret’s RC Memorial Church, East Port, Dunfermline. All you have to do is navigate to KY12 7JB, part with £10, and enjoy an evening of G&S. It’s your choice whether to sing along with the choruses – bring a score, or we’ll provide one – or just sit back and enjoy the results of the efforts of others!
If you prefer to buy a ticket in advance, talk to any member of the Society, or contact our ticket hot-line by phone (07703 483083) or email ticketsales@dgass.org.uk. Most importantly, turn up on the night – you can pay at the door.
Happy 140th!
Our Society isn’t yet quite 50 (though we’re starting to plan to celebrate that), but today (25 May) it’s 140 years since the first performance of HMS Pinafore. This show opened at the Opera Comique in London on 25 May 1878 and ran for 571 performances, the second-longest run of any musical theatre piece up to that time.
Why not wish Pinafore a Happy Birthday by coming along to our Singalong on 22 June? A £10 ticket buys you an evening of fun, either to sing – bring your own score, or we’ll lend you a copy – or just to listen to. Tickets from members, or contact our ticket hot-line by phone (07703 483083) or email ticketsales@dgass.org.uk. You too will then be able to “whistle all the airs from that infernal nonsense, Pinafore”, which you’ll remember as one of Major-General Stanley’s qualifications for his exalted rank!

Our ship is now due to be launched a week later than originally announced, on Friday 22 June, at St Margaret’s Memorial RC Church, East Port, Dunfermline.
Thank you to those who came to the sing-through on 26 March, which reminded us how good the show is, and how long it is since we sang it! Do come, and bring all those friends who missed out last time, to our next rehearsals, which are at Whitefield at 7.30pm on Wednesday 18 April and after the AGM on Wednesday 2 May.
Notification of AGM
Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s 48th AGM is on Wednesday 2 May 2018, at 7.00pm at the Whitefield Day Hospital at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline. Further information will be available later.

Chansons Spring Concert
Ian Osborne invites us to the Chansons Spring concert at St Mary’s Monastery, Kinnoull, Perth on Sunday 22 April at 7:30pm. This group of around 40 singers offers a mix of chamber music and choral singing featuring Samuel Wesley’s The Wilderness, Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater in C minor and Cecilia McDowall’s A Time for all Seasons. This last contemporary piece has “a feel of Gershwin”, and Carol will be singing the soprano solo! Details on the Chansons website.
