Gondoliers 2015

gondoliers-programme-front-thumbnailIf you are looking here for information about our exciting jaunt to Venice and Barataria, it means you’ve missed our Next Show page! Follow the link, or click the image, to get the flier and booking form. If you can come on a night other than the ever-popular Friday, you’ll find really competitive seat pricing, and especially good deals for families. Where else can you have an evening out for two adults and two children for £25? –  and possibly end up with the youngsters hooked for life!

List and learn

Peter has provided the linked prompt sheet for the ladies taking part in the opening number. He “will now look forward to perfection from the ladies (Contadine) chorus!”.

Off to Barataria!

Our crew of gondoliers are seen here apparently heading towards the interval! “Away they go to an island fair … wherever that isle may be.” Of course, we all know that it’s on-stage, and they’re not really hauling, but don’t they give a good impression of doing so!

Thanks to Fiona for taking some shots of the Sunday rehearsal on 26 January.

Our mandolines tuning …

Two of our principal gondoliers are waiting to entertain you! Fortunately, an orchestra is there to back the singers. As are a chorus of beautiful flower maidens! But to find out who ends up with who, you’ll have to see our show, which starts at Carnegie in under a fortnight.

Stagecraft Day

If you are free from 10.30am to 3.00pm on Saturday 7 February 2015, there’s an invitation from Kirkcaldy G&S Society to sign up for the Stagecraft Day that they are hosting at Pathhead Church, Harriet Street, Kirkcaldy.

You’ll be able to attend workshops on hair/wigs, stage make-up, movement and costume, and one of two Masterclass sessions taken by Linda Ormiston. These sessions will give six to eight volunteers an opportunity for some personal performance coaching.

The event is grant-aided by Fife Council, so tickets are a real bargain at £8, which includes all workshops, tea & coffee and a soup/sandwich lunch.

KGASS hope that some of our members might like to be part of what promises to be an instructive and fun day. More details, and a form to be returned by Friday 16 January, at this link.

Gondoliers schedule revision

Peter has made a few adjustments to the rehearsal schedule for the beginning of 2015 – mainly concerning the principals. You can download the revised schedule at this link. For the avoidance of doubt, the first rehearsal on 4 January is for all the chorus, with the men called for 2.00pm, and the ladies joining them at 2.45pm.

Christmas music at St Margaret’s

Relieved smiles … photo-call after the performance!

Relieved smiles – photo-call after  the performance!

This year we exchanged our fund-raising summer concert for a Concert of Carols and Christmas Music which was held on Sunday 14 December in St Margaret’s RC Memorial Church, East Port, Dunfermline.  The audience almost filled the main body of the church, and they were very appreciative of the wide range of seasonal music and poetry we performed. For most people the concert was also their first opportunity to hear the wonderful sound that the new organ at St Margaret’s could produce. Well done to all our soloists and readers, especially Carol, who overcame her own illness to sing not just one but two difficult solo pieces.

We ended by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas – the Christmas cheer for the Society was that the concert netted about £1,200 for our funds! Thanks to all those who took part, with special thanks to Willie Campbell for his musical direction and brilliant organ playing, to Mike Pendlowski for his creative use of the new church lighting system, and to Sinead Black and Anne Dolbear for all they did to organise both performers and catering.

Next appearance

Your next chance to see the Society on stage at Carnegie Hall, Dunfermline will be on 13–15 February 2025 for the première run of The Jury’s Out.
