NODA presentations
Covid having intervened, no NODA awards could be presented until 2023, when the presentation by Stuart McCue-Dick, Councillor for NODA (Scotland) took place at our 50th Anniversary tea at the Pitbauchlie House Hotel on Saturday 22 April 2023, with what must surely be a record number of awards collected.
These awards recognising service to amateur theatre went to:
- Joy Campbell: 20 year badge
- Willie Campbell: 20 year badge
- John Allen: 20 year badge
- *Jim Robinson: 20 year badge
- *Ian Anderson: 25 year badge
- Anne Dolbear: 25 year badge
- *Jennifer Williams: 25 year badge
- Theresa Wilson: 25 year badge
- Jack Archibald: 30 year badge
- *Marion Kelly: 30 year badge
- Mary Kidd: 40 year badge
- Gwyneth Kirby: 40 year badge
- Martin Tarr: 45 year badge
- Mike Pendlowski: 50 year badge
The final award to Robin Ożóg was not for long service as such (Robin had already received his 50 year award) but a very special NODA Commendation Award recognising the major contribution he has made to our Society since its foundation.
*Four members were not able to attend the tea, so their awards were presented at a later date by our Chair.
This post will work its way down the page, but you can see all the recent presentation history at this link.
September concerts
Although we weren’t rehearsing for a show, Wednesdays continued to be G&S evenings until the end of May, and many of our members enjoyed meeting at Limekilns to prepare a selection of music for your delight. In a programme devised by Willie Campbell, you will hear excerpts from no fewer than eleven of the operas at two concerts:
7.30pm on Friday 15 September at the St Andrew’s Erskine Parish Church (Robertson Road, Dunfermline KY12 0BF)
7.30pm on Saturday 16 September at Limekilns Parish Church (8 Church St, Limekilns, Dunfermline KY11 3HT)
Concerts give an opportunity for both members and former members to take part, so you’ll get a chance to hear old friends and the broadest possible selection of talent singing music from what we are sure will include your favourite shows.
Tickets are £12 from members, from Anne Dolbear (07703 483083) or on the door.
Time to audition!
You’ll see that the New Show page now has an Auditions page, inviting you to contact Ellen and book a slot to audition for our next show. Michael has given us an intriguing insight into his plans for an excitingly different interpretation of Iolanthe, and we can’t wait for rehearsals to start. Meanwhile, it’s time for those who fancy a principal role to put themselves forward … Wednesday 12 July and Sunday 16 July are the main slots, but don’t hesitate to express an interest if you would dearly love to perform with your favourite G&S Society and can’t make those dates.
Kingdom Singers concert
Do head for Limekilns Parish Church at 7:30pm on Thursday 25 May for a concert by the Kingdom Singers, conducted by Willie Campbell, when you can enjoy their usual eclectic mix of music, and support Willie and the many other friends who sing with DGASS. The concert will be repeated the following evening (7:30pm on Friday 26 May) in the Annexe Studio Theatre at Dunfermline’s Carnegie Hall. Note that seating capacity in the Annexe is limited, so you are advised to contact Willie or another choir member to reserve your space.
It’s AGM time!
Hi everyone … we always have an Annual General Meeting at this time of year, and this year you’ll get the bonus of a summer concert rehearsal afterwards. So come along to Limekilns Parish Church 30 minutes earlier than usual at 7.00pm on Wednesday 17 May, and have your say! Anyone is welcome, but only paid-up members can vote.
The agenda for the meeting can be downloaded at this link.
50 years celebrated on-screen
Pirates being the Society’s 50th anniversary show, Robin Ożóg, our producer, thought the audience might like to see some of the archive material saved since 13 May 1970, the inaugural meeting of the Society. So, during the overture, the audience enjoyed both the music and the projected presentation below, put together by our very own Val McManus.
Our Pirate arrives at Show Week!
As we’ve been counting down Show Week (16–18 Feb 2023) our Pitreavie Pirate has been popping up in lots of Gillian Tait’s “111 Places in Fife That You Shouldn’t Miss”, to promote the 50th Anniversary production of The Pirates of Penzance performed by his chums from the Dunfermline Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
This being Show Week there’s a daily post on our Facebook page, though we’ll do our best to keep this post updated. Do keep your eyes peeled for a view of the little man himself, as you won’t know where he’ll be turning up next, although we suspect he’ll be around at Carnegie Hall sometime soon.
Meantime don’t forget to buy your ticket. Our box office is now at the Carnegie Hall – you can visit the box office in person between 10.00am–1.00pm and 2.00pm–4.00pm, Monday to Friday, phone during the same hours on 01383 602302, or book online at this link.
