Messiaen at Dunfermline Abbey

2015-11-28 Messiaen posterAndrew Caskie (husband of Rebecca, who is playing Kate in Yeoman), the organist at Palmerston Place Church, is giving a complete (and free!) performance of Olivier Messiaen’s La Nativité du Seigneur on the magnificent organ in Dunfermline Abbey at 7.30pm on Saturday 28 November.

Forming one of the greatest organ works of the twentieth century, the nine movements of the work are full of radiant and evocative music that illuminate the message and poetic images of Advent and Christmas.  Each of the movements will be preceded by a reading of the Scripture verses that Messiaen referenced at its head.

Geoff needs a hand!

geoff_strongAs part of the new Festival of Dunfermline Dunfermline and West Fife Sports Council are reviving the Recreation and Hobbies Exhibition. At its peak this was one of the largest events of its kind in the country and attracted visitors from across Scotland.

DGASS will be there, looking to drum up members and audience. The venue is the Glen Pavilion in Pittencrieff Park; the exhibition is on Saturday 12 September and Sunday 13 September and runs from 11.00 am until 4.00pm. You’ll be welcome to come and help for as long or as short a time as you like, but Geoff is going to lose that lovely smile if no-one turns up!
